Update Government Tech Infrastructure

Bring our government into the current century.

Problem

In terms of tech integration, Congress has not joined the 21st century. The government has systems running on a programming language from the 70s, that is durable, but not widely known by engineers because it is no longer relevant to the overall tech industry. Furthermore, STEM research and fact-checking can be used to identify and prevent projects that would be wasteful and unsuccessful.

Solution

  • Create an independent agency responsible for the safe integration and operation of tech in government.

    • Encourage transparency and objectivity of all decisions and hiring practices.

    • This agency would oversee fact-checking of bills and claims.

  • Hire more tech-savvy congressional staff, including aides, engineers, and IT support.

    • Increase paid internship opportunities for interns with backgrounds in tech.

  • Advocate for the replacement of COBOL.

    • Develop research grants on how to efficiently and securely transition from COBOL to newer computer languages.

This Matters

When partisan views are prioritized over objective scientific information, the legislative process is undermined, and cannot truly serve the interests of the people. We need our laws to be based on factually accurate information if we want relevant solutions.
