Flush Corporate Influence Out of the FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)  needs to have the independence to thoroughly, ethically, and unbiasedly evaluate foods, medications, cosmetics, and products that are in the best interest of the American people, not corporations.

Problem

The FDA is plagued by limited funding, lack of resources, and bias from political leaders and big pharma.

Our Plan

We want to ensure that the American people are consuming safe products, and to do that, the FDA must be independent of any political or economic influence.

  • Make the FDA an independent agency to increase autonomy.

    • Play a larger role in drug pricing.

    • Allow the FDA to act on their regulations so entities can be held accountable for not following regulations.

  • Strengthen the FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs’s enforcement arm to impartially regulate unethical behavior.

  • Increase transparency and create an internal oversight committee of scientists to detangle the relationship between politics and regulation.

  • Standardize and enforce the phases for FDA approval to ensure that each product undergoes thorough clinical trials and is truly safe for the public.

  • Mandate random, independent audits of current regulations due to complaints of biases, as well as both over and under regulation by the FDA.

  • Embed hiring transparency amongst all levels and remove resume screening bias.

This Matters

The regulation of food and drugs should be based on scientific backing rather than political ideologies. If the FDA has greater power to enforce regulations, people will eat healthier food, patients will have safer treatment options, and products will be made with our interest in mind.
